Brian’s Rating
In 1986, Daryl Hannah starred as a primitive human in Clan of the Cave
Bear.
Twenty years later in 2006, Mel Gibson released his Academy Award-nominated
movie Apocalypto, which dealt with an ancient civilization, captive
slaves, and ritual sacrifice.
Now, in 2008, someone who has obviously seen and studied both of these
films, gives us 10,000 BC, now available on DVD.
It is a tale of primitive humans, ancient civilizations, captive slaves and
ritual sacrifice, with wooly mammoths and a saber-tooth tiger thrown in for
good measure.
Theatre seats aren’t equipped with remote-control devices, but when you
watch this at home, you can fast forward to the last thirty minutes of
10,000 BC, which are pretty impressive. Without that option, you’d have to
sit through about sixty minutes of tedium before you get to the good stuff,
and I’m not sure that’s a decent tradeoff.
