Brian’s Rating
The essence of the filmmaker’s craft is to make people feel things.
Excitement, elation, patriotism, sympathy, empathy, the list goes on and on.
And somewhere on that list is fear. I hate scary movies. But I have to give
credit where credit is due.
1408, the latest film from Stephen King, scared me witless. Minute
after minute of this frightening film made me more anxious and more
uncomfortable than I would ever choose to feel, but that’s because the film
was having the effect on me that it was supposed to have.
I’ve always been a fan of John Cusack and he really steps up in this tale of
an author who writes books about haunted houses and hotels. Samuel L.
Jackson co-stars as the manager of the hotel that houses room 1408, and he
is equally impressive.
If scary is your thing, 1408 is the DVD for you.
