It was pretty easy for me to like 21, now on DVD, the “inspired by true events” story of a group of MIT students who use their math skills to grab millions by counting cards at Vegas’ blackjack tables.

I am drawn to films about Las Vegas, so much so that I even found something to appreciate about all three installments of the “Ocean’s’ series.

I am also a big fan of Kevin Spacey and Lawrence Fishburne, both of whom give great performances here. I never tire of watching people beat the system or of watching talented young actors earn their chops, so the appeal of 21 should be easy to comprehend for those of you who share my affections.

The script is clever, the action moves along at a brisk pace, and the transformation of the lead character from hapless brainiac to cocksure high roller is masterfully orchestrated.

21 on DVD is big fun and a safe bet for a good time.
