Brian’s Rating
Sandra Bullock needs to watch her back.
Katherine Heigl is about to take her
place in Hollywood. And as I watched the Knocked Up star work in
27 Dresses, now on DVD, I couldn’t help but think that if this movie was
made ten years ago, Sandra Bullock would have been cast as the lead in this
predictable romantic comedy.
There aren’t too many surprises in this tale of a perennial bridesmaid who
finds herself planning her younger sister’s wedding, but there are a couple
of things worthy of note.
First, the script is funny. In fact, remarkably so. Second, the language is
occasionally shocking, which is something I wasn’t expecting, and something
you should be aware of.
And finally, the film’s highlight is a barroom dance number involving a
familiar Elton John song and the scene ranks among the best singing
performances by two onscreen drunks that I’ve ever witnessed.
27 Dresses is a pleasant, engaging movie, but Sandra, we still love
you, too.
