NOW
ON DVD
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE
Rated PG-13
Evan Rachel Wood, Jim
Sturgess, Joe Anderson
Brian’s Rating
I desperately want to say something profoundly insightful
or cheerfully witty about Across the Universe, now on DVD, but all
that keeps coming out of my mouth is “Omigod.”
Let’s see if I can come up with some compelling critic-speak. How about “a
majestic, visually arresting experience”? Or “total sensory overload”?
Here’s one more: “A Sixties love story illuminated by the best of The
Beatles and jaw-dropping cinematography.”
I loved everything about this movie. I loved the music. I loved the story. I
loved the acting. I loved the salute to psychedelia that featured Bono and
Eddie Izzard. If you lived through the Sixties and know the correct spelling
of The Beatles, you should not miss this film. If you want to show a member
of Generation X what the Sixties were about, show them this film.
Across the Universe is absolutely astounding… even though it’s a
little long.
