Brian’s Rating
A friend of mine challenged me to review a movie in a
single sentence or phrase. So I decided to try that today with my review of
Alpha Dog, now on DVD.
Here goes. “Two hours of non-stop profanity”. Here’s another descriptive
shot: “Reefer Madness meets Pulp Fiction”. Or how about “Justin Timberlake
shows his acting chops”.
If you take those three short statements and put them all together, you’ll
have a pretty good idea about what you’re in for.
Alpha Dog has a raw quality that I really liked, but it’s going to
look cheap to a lot of people who are used to slicker productions.
Supporting appearances by Harry Dean Stanton, Bruce Willis, and Sharon Stone
give Alpha Dog some impressive credentials but keep in mind that this
is a story of kidnapping and drug dealing, and you know from the very
beginning that it’s not going to end well.
I give Alpha Dog a good review, but with a note of warning to my more
conservative listeners.
