ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS
Rated PG
Jason Lee, David Cross, Cameron Richardson, Jane Lynch
Brian’s Rating
Chipmunks are the new penguins, and they have really
cashed in. In recent years we’ve had no less than three movies about
penguins, two of which won Academy Awards.
But their replacements have arrived, and now, on the heels of a charming
performance by a chipmunk in Enchanted, we have the return of Simon,
Theodore and Alvin in Alvin and the Chipmunks.
I loved them when I was a kid and I loved this new incarnation, and frankly,
if all movies adapted from cartoons were this good, my job would be a lot
easier. They’re cute, they’re funny, and they’re believable, as
computer-generated forest creatures go.
And here’s something you may not know: Alvin and the Chipmunks
grossed over $200 million in theatres, which is nearly three times the
box-office receipts of No Country for Old Men, last year’s Oscar
winner for best film! Alvin and the Chipmunks is the kind of DVD that
you’ll want to have around for bad weather days, spontaneous sleepovers, and
the holidays.
