BABY MAMA
Rated PG-13
Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Sigourney Weaver, Greg Kinnear, Maura Tierney
Brian’s Rating
Fans of Saturday Night Live will be tickled pink
to see two of the show’s top-flight comediennes in action once again as Tina
Fey and Amy Poehler team up in the shockingly good Baby Mama.
Stepping confidently over the cinematic corpses of a dozen flops written to
showcase other SNL stars, Fey and Poehler deliver sharp performances
and non-stop laughs, and I had more fun than I could ever have imagined.
Declared hopelessly infertile by her physicians, Fey’s character engages a
surrogate mother, but the culture clash between Fey’s tightly-wound
corporate vice president and Poehler’s blue-collar baby maker keeps the
arrangement in constant jeopardy. A familiar “Felix and Oscar” scenario is
in play, but it is well-fueled by an impressive supporting cast, including
the funniest performance by Steve Martin in years.
A treat for the ladies that won’t scare men away, Baby Mama delivers
in a big way.
