BALLS OF FURY
Rated PG-13
Dan Fogler, Christopher Walken, George Lopez, Maggie Q
Brian’s Rating
It doesn’t take a genius to know that you shouldn’t expect much from a movie
entitled Balls of Fury.
But you don’t have to be a complete dummy to find something to like about
it, either. It’s a funny film. All you have to do is play along.
Imagine for a moment that there is indeed a dark, secret, underground world
of sudden-death ping pong where the world’s greatest players compete under
the watchful eye of a sexually ambiguous crime lord.
Imagine that this crime lord is the target of government agents who recruit
one of the ping-pong world’s fallen stars to infiltrate his secret hideaway.
Now imagine that this fallen star, a former teen champion, is now a pudgy
adult, trained by a hard-bodied Asian hottie, who of course falls in love
with him.
Add a touch of Blades of Glory and Beerfest and you have
Balls of Fury, now on DVD, a coarse bit of comedy that only guys are
gonna like.
Frankly, it was surprising to see veteran actors James Hong and Christopher
Walken in this bit of fluff, but hey, they’ve got to eat too.
