Jerry Seinfeld, Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, Patrick, Warburton, John
Goodman, Chris Rock
Brian’s Rating
It occurs to me that Jerry Seinfeld has enough money to do just about
whatever he wants. Not Bill Gates money or even Oprah money, but I can’t
turn on the TV without seeing a Seinfeld rerun, so the residual
checks must be coming in.
When the TV series came to an end, I figured he would take his time and find
the perfect vehicle for his feature film debut, so I’m a little surprised
that he picked a mildly entertaining animated feature, the aptly titled
Bee Movie, now available on DVD.
Seinfeld provides the voice of the lead character, a young bee uncertain of
his future who longs for more fulfillment than simply serving the hive.
Renee Zellweger plays the human who befriends him and Chris Rock steals the
show as a streetwise mosquito, more or less along for the ride.
The animation is impressive and the laughs are plentiful, but Bee Movie
just seemed lackluster to me. Most people, especially children, will think
it’s “funny enough,” but frankly, I expected more from Seinfeld.
