NOW ON DVD
BREACH
Rated PG-13
Chris Cooper, Ryan Phillippe, Laura Linney
Brian’s Rating
We’ve had no shortage of spy thrillers of late but that’s ok with me
‘because I love ‘em.
And now on the DVD heels of the Casino Royale and The Good
Shepherd comes Breach, a movie based on the true story of the greatest
“breach” of U.S. security in the nation’s history.
The story and the characters it involves make for a very compelling movie,
but what ensures that Breach will stand out, are three very fine
performances.
First, Chris Cooper is masterful as the wayward spy who becomes the subject
of an internal FBI investigation. Next Ryan Philippe once again proves his
acting chops as the young staff member recruited to entrap the senior agent.
And finally, Laura Linney turns in a wonderfully restrained performance as
the young agent’s direct report.
And while Cooper is clearly in control of this film, Philippe and Linney
hold up their end of the bargain beautifully. Breach delivers double
doses of suspense and intrigue and provides a satisfying DVD experience.
