Every time my girlfriend Cupcake brings up the idea of getting another pet, I always suggest a monkey.

I know that keeping a monkey of any age or size in a loft apartment is an absurd notion, but I always act as if that is the only pet I would consider adding to our existing menagerie and that seems to end the discussion.

But after seeing seen Evan Almighty, now on DVD,  I’m back on the monkey kick.  Because the real stars of this enjoyable film, are a series of simian thespians whose antics manage to upstage even the talented Steve Carell.

Evan Almighty is not quite as clever as its predecessor Bruce Almighty, but it is equally touching and much more family friendly. Steve Carell plays the modern day Noah with some restraint, and with only momentary lapses into the realm of silliness we’ve come to expect from him. If you’re an animal lover, you won’t want to miss Evan Almighty.
