Brian’s Rating

Approximately 48 minutes into the embarrassment that is Ice Cube’s latest movie, comedian Katt Williams speaks his first lines and effectively takes over the film.

Unless you are a fan of HBO's Def Comedy Jam, you may not know his face, his voice, or his striking hairstyle, but this guy is something to see.

And the makers of First Sunday, now on DVD, are forever in his debt, because until he starts cutting up, the film is absolutely miserable.

Based on the repellant notion that there may actually be a justifiable reason to rob a church, the story centers on two n’er-do-wells desperately in need of cash.

Played in positively amateurish fashion by Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan, these two characters try their best to earn our sympathy but it’s hard to side with them when they are holding a pastor at gunpoint.

First Sunday is an atrocious film and if it weren’t for Katt Williams, it wouldn’t even warrant a mention here.
