The onset of the summer travel season means that legions of young lovers will be venturing to tropical locales, but chances are slim that any of them will encounter the same action and adventure as the estranged couple at the heart of Fool’s Gold, now on DVD.

Combining the best elements of the National Treasure movies with those of an abdominzer infomercial, Fool’s Gold gives us a feuding couple, a search for long lost treasure, and the amazing abs of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson.

Frankly, I liked this movie better the first time I saw it when it was called The Deep back in 1977, but Fool’s Gold’s bikini-clad stars are enough to make you forget Jacqueline Bissett in that wet t-shirt.

McConaughey and Hudson look like they are genuinely having fun and a nice turn by veteran Donald Sutherland adds a touch of class to this lighthearted, romantic romp.
