Brian’s Rating
It’s not unusual to see characters in a movie that are
unlikable.
Sometimes, they are villains, naturally evil people, and sometimes they are
victims, whose trials have turned them into unpleasant people. Usually, the
villains get what’s coming to them and the victims are somehow healed and
perform some act of redemption. Either way, we usually know what to expect
with unlikable characters.
That is not the case with Georgia Rule, the story of a grandmother, a
mother, and a granddaughter who are positively miserable excuses for human
beings. Circumstances place a strict disciplinarian, a drunk, and a teenage
harlot together in the same household for a brief time and we are forced to
watch.
It is almost unbearable.
The acting is strong, but I absolutely hated these characters. And I don’t
think I was supposed to. Who do I blame that on?
