Brian’s Rating
I was more than a little skeptical about the release of
another Halloween movie, especially when I heard that shock rocker
and occasional filmmaker Rob Zombie would be interpreting this remake of the
film originally done by John Carpenter.
While I am not ordinarily a fan of movies that depend on blood and breasts
to make their case, I will say that Zombie’s take on the Michael Myers saga
is bold, fresh, and undeniably entertaining.
Except for a protracted ending that just goes on forever, the film holds our
attention by serving up a seemingly nonstop series of interesting
characters. A loving mother who moonlights as a stripper. An abusive
alcoholic stepfather. Two sisters, one innocent and one not so innocent. An
inquisitive psychiatrist. A merciful hospital worker. A disbelieving
sheriff. A randy cheerleader. And the mask-wearing, knife-wielding Michael
Myers at the center of it all.
I found plenty to like about Halloween, which is now available on
DVD.
