Brian’s Rating
Easy Rider probably started it all, but the concept of the marijuana
adventure film certainly reached its zenith with the 2004 release of
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.
The sequel to that modestly successful but undeniably entertaining film is
now on DVD, as John Cho and Kal Penn reprise their roles as
unapologetic hemp enthusiasts in search of their herb of preference.
In round two, the boys are mistaken for terrorists while on an overseas
flight and find themselves detained in a Guantanamo Bay prison.
Their quest to clear their names takes them from Cuba to Florida to Texas,
and places them in intimate contact with sadistic guards, inept government
agents, sympathetic hookers, the Klan, Neal Patrick Harris, and the
President of the United States.
While not quite as funny as the original, Harold & Kumar Escape from
Guantanamo Bay has enough frat-boy humor and bold nudity to keep the
franchise alive.
