HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY
Rated PG-13
Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Luke Gross, John Alexander
Brian’s Rating
For a generation of movie lovers, the cantina scene in the original Star
Wars will always hold top honors in the freak gallery category. There
has never been a worthy challenger to this colorful creature
collective—until now.
An all too brief segment in Hellboy II: The Golden Army gives us a
thrilling glimpse of what is described as the “troll market” setting a new
threshold level for creative creepdom and giving birth to one of the most
chilling lines of dialogue every uttered by a non-human character.
It is the defining moment for Hellboy II, but there are a number of
others to justify my recommendation of this extraordinary film about a truly
unique superhero.
If you missed the first Hellboy, don’t worry, you’ll catch on fast.
And if you miss the scene featuring two intoxicated super beings singing
Barry Manilow, you’ll never forgive yourself.
