JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH
Rated PG
Brendan Fraser, Anita Briem, Josh Hutcherson
Brian’s Rating
I am of the opinion that we don’t get enough kid-friendly movies to choose
from, so I’m always pleased when I can report on the release of another
solid choice for family viewing.
But my recommendation of Journey to the Center of the Earth comes
with one stipulation: you must see it in a 3D theatre and keep in mind that
not all multiplexes are equipped with this technology.
You’ll have to spend 90 minutes with a pair of cheap glasses parked on your
nose but it will be worth it, and frankly, without the 3D magic, most of the
other effects look a little primitive.
The dependable Brendan Fraser leads the way in this adventure which calls to
mind a handful of elements from the National Treasure franchise while
still capturing the essence of the original Jules Verne tale.
There are a number of nicely executed comic moments and the overall result
is quite satisfying.
