True fans of science fiction films have learned to cut Hollywood some slack
when it comes to storylines, but when the plot of a movie is riddled with
holes, even the thrill of watching a human with super powers can be a
disappointment.
Jumper, now on DVD, introduces us to characters who can teleport themselves
through walls and across continents with the blink of an eye, paving the way
for some pretty cool special effects and some exceptional travel footage.
But a litany of unanswered questions plagues what might have been the
ultimate expression of personal freedom.
Need money? A bank vault becomes your ATM. Fancy some sushi? Skip over to
Tokyo. Need to escape from the bad guys, find the mother who abandoned you,
reconnect with your high school girlfriend, and beat up the town bully?
Not so fast. You left out a few details. And Jumper’s answer to that
is “Wait for the sequel.”
