JUNO
Rated PG-13
Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner
Brian’s Rating
In much the same fashion as Little Miss Sunshine
did in 2006, Best Picture nominee Juno took the country by storm late
last year and after dozens of awards and a spirited theatrical run, it’s now
available on DVD.
Here’s the story: Talented newcomer Ellen Page plays a sixteen-year-old
high school student who becomes pregnant and decides to seek out adoptive
parents for her unborn child. Not impressed? Well, wait until you hear her
dialogue, an endless stream of clever quips crafted by writer Diablo Cody,
who took home an Oscar for this screenplay.
There are other characters, and indeed some impressive performances, but
Juno belongs to the heroine for which it is named.
Despite its PG-13 rating, I would consider this to be decidedly adult fare,
but I would be surprised to find that your teenagers hadn’t already been
exposed to similar language and sexual situations before.
