LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD
Rated PG-13
Bruce Willis, Justin Long, Timothy Olyphant
Brian’s Rating
Live Free or Die Hard, now on DVD, is the fourth installment of a
series that has given us some pretty exciting moments with Bruce Willis and
a couple of first-class villains.
And while this latest episode of the adventures of detective John McClane
does have its shortcomings, a topical storyline and some amazing stunts make
it worth your time and effort. From the opening frames to the closing
credits this movie is all about action.
Earth-shaking explosions, car chases, truck chases, helicopter chases, jet
chases—if you can drive it or blow it up, Live Free gives it some
screen time. We also get a closer look at McClane’s relationship with his
daughter and a scary look at how somebody with a computer and a grudge could
screw up our lives.
The biggest weakness of Live Free or Die Hard is the villain, played
by Timothy Olyphant, who was great in Deadwood but fails to
shine here.
