Brian’s Rating
How could the writers behind Nicholas Cage’s movie Next come up with such an intriguing premise but fail to
manage a decent ending?
Did the creative juices just stop flowing? Did they get tired of the
intricate plot? Or did they just walk away before it was finished? I don’t
know the answer, but you can’t argue with the outcome which is a very
unsatisfying resolution to what could have been a decent film.
Our hero sees his future…two minutes at a time. It allows him to pass as a
Las Vegas magician, get the advantage at the gambling tables, and track down
his future love interest. The government thinks his talents can help them
stop a terrorist attack. The Feds make a move on him as he is making a move
on the girl, and two worlds collide. Then, with a puff of smoke, the bottom
falls out and we are left scratching our heads. What a disappointment!
I suggest you skip Next, even on DVD.
