Brian’s Rating
It’s interesting to note that while a delightful British film entitled
Son of Rambow is making its way around the art-house circuit, the fourth
installment in the Rambo franchise is being released on DVD.
And while Rambo will not disappoint those of us who are fans, I must tell
you that this is by far the goriest, bloodiest film in the series.
Looking reasonably fit and noticeably younger than his sixty-one years,
Stallone plays his world-weary Rambo-in-retirement as a man who has seen the
evil that man can bring and wants no part of it.
Living a bare-bones existence as a snake hunter in Thailand, John Rambo
simply wants to be left alone, which, of course, is not to be. When the
opportunity arises to save a group of missionaries, our man grabs his bow
and swings into action.
The result is a smattering of decidedly Rambo-esque moments amidst an hour
and a half of gruesome carnage.
