Brian’s Rating
I’m a pretty big fan of Comedy Central on cable, but I had only seen a few
episodes of Reno 911 before I saw the feature length film that takes
these colorful characters from the small screen to the big screen.
In other words, I knew what I was getting into…and my expectations were low.
For those of you unfamiliar with the TV show, Reno 911 follows the
antics of a group of police officers with no apparent job skills and variety
of sexual orientations. Imagine Barney Fife meets the Village People,
serenaded by Melissa Etheridge.
The movie puts these engaging incompetents on the road to a police
convention in Miami, where, due to a terrorist threat all available law
enforcement personnel are quarantined, leaving our hapless Joe Fridays to
protect the city.
And while the humor in Reno 911: Miami is pretty lowbrow, in fact
even vulgar, I have to say, I kind of enjoyed it. I didn’t laugh out loud.
But I smiled quite a few times. And it’s now available on DVD
