NOW IN THEATERS
THE INCREDIBLE HULK
Rated PG-13
Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, Tim Blake Nelson, William Hurt
Brian’s Rating
The second movie about Marvel Comics’ most famous chameleon ends on a note
so brilliantly conceived that it elevates The Incredible Hulk from
the mediocre to the sublime in the space of about 90 seconds.
It is such a spectacular twist that I am forced to recommend the film,
despite the tedious battle scenes featuring our not-so-jolly giant and the
unfortunate paucity of scenes showcasing the palpable on-screen chemistry
between Edward Norton and Liv Tyler.
Marvel mavens will find plenty to like about The Incredible Hulk and
fans of the TV show will be treated to a short but sweet trip down memory
lane, but the film deserves better villains than what William Hurt and Tim Roth
can muster.
Up until the final moments, I was ready to write this one off as ho-hum, but
the film’s “Hail Mary” sealed the deal.
