Health 52 Info Tip:
Healthy Resolutions

Losing weight may well be the most commonly broken New Year’s resolution.

Try a different approach, replacing your “diet” with a series of healthier choices that allow for slow, steady progress. Start with healthy snacks. Keep a fruit bowl within easy reach and nutritious choices at eye level in the refrigerator.

Start the day with a reasonable breakfast, and don’t skip lunch. When your body feels famished, you’re likely to overeat at dinner.

Control your portion sizes. Make this the year to cut back on overall fat including unnatural trans-fats. These are manipulated or hydrogenated vegetable oils that are high in calories and can clog arteries.

One way to control calories is to boost your metabolism so your body will burn calories at a faster rate. Physical activity increases metabolism not just during exercise but 24/7 as your body finds an efficient way to feed your growing muscles.

And finally, think green by purchasing more items from the fresh produce section of your supermarket. Fresh vegetables and home-cooked meals help cut back on disposable packaging materials, while allowing you to control the amount of salt, sugar and fats in your meals.
